Swalec Bowl Result - Mynyddygarreg 10 Cardigan 43

Mynyddygarreg faced strong outfit Cardigan RFC in the Swalec Bowl on Saturday and put up a spirited effort in going down by a scoreline of 43-10.

It was Mynydd who began the match the stronger with centre and captain Owain Phillips making a scything break through the visitors defence. Phillips' run created the ruck from which Cardigan were penalised, for brother and scrum half Dafydd Phillips to fire over a penalty goal to give Mynydd and early 3-0 lead.

The visitiors repsonded in kind and excellent hands from their three-quarter line on two ocassions saw them cross in each corner for tries. A further try before half time saw the vistors lead 19-3 at the break.

Mynydd threatened the visitors line in spurts, and were to blow two try scoring opportunities. Firstly, centre Bryn Edwards was held up just short of the line, and then Number 8 Rhys Thomas saw a try go a begging when the final pass was put to ground.

Cardigan kicked on to cross for another 3 tries after the interval too seal the match. Mynydd never gave up though and a powerful last 15 minutes would have pleased coaches Lowri Harries and Steve Thomas.

The Mountain Nen were finally rewarded when prop Cerith McNally powered his way over for a try beneath the posts, which Phillips converted.
